Research
There is a continuing need for
new approaches to address emerging economic and ecological problems.
Research plays a fundamental role in the identification of effective
approaches. By building on empirical experience in the field, and by
modelling scenarios for a range of prospective development options,
Cen2eco research aims to contribute towards the global
knowledge-base of solutions to outstanding sustainable development
problems.
Spanning a wide spectrum of sectors and issues, Cen2eco
research examines economic and environmental issues at local,
national, regional and global levels.
Current Cen2eco research
interests are centred on:
- trade and development
- trade negotiations
- trade related technical assistance and capacity building
- trade and environment
- environmental economics
- economic instruments & public policy
- sustainable energy production and consumption
- climate change mitigation strategies
- air, water, soil and noise pollution abatement
- environmentally sound management of waste, including recycling
- environmental impact assessment
- environmental monitoring and remediation
Capacity
Building
The pursuit of balanced and
sustainable development is a public choice involving all
stakeholders in collective decisionmaking processes. While each
institutional and individual stakeholder brings specific knowledge
and skills to the process, no single stakeholder has an appreciation
of the full range of issues that may be impacted by their preferred
approach to development. Moreover, in many cases, a collective group
of stakeholders may not have the capacity to accurately assess all
of the potential issues and options at hand, or the capacity to
implement a preferred development option.
Within its
areas of expertise,
Cen2eco works to assist stakeholders in specific decisionmaking
processes to raise their capacities to understand and assess the
economic and environmental problems that confront them, and to design
and implement responses to effectively address them.
Towards this objective,
independently and in collaboration with other organisations,
Cen2eco:
- prepares publications, based on its research, for non-specialist decisionmakers
- organises training
activities for both specialist and non-specialist decisionmakers
- organises policy dialogue
round-tables to facilitate exchange among
stakeholders, and between stakeholders and issue specialists
Field Work
Cen2eco associates and
international affiliates have experience and an established capacity
to conduct sector- and issue-specific field work in a growing number
of countries and languages throughout the world. Cen2eco field work
is focussed on economic studies, trade related technical assistance
and capacity building, and environmental
impact assessment.
